Carolyn's Homepage

This home page has two purposes: to tell about myself and my family, but also as a place to practice webpage development. If you would like to create a website, but don't know HTML, I'll show you how

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, specifically, the San Fernando Valley. Consequently, I was in both major earthquakes there: 1971 and 1994. If you would like to experience a virtual earthquake from the safety of your own cubicle, click here. I have two wonderful children, Vincent, 15, and Julia, 12. I also have two great sisters, Kim and Cindy. My mom is off sailing around the world on her boat. Visit her website and see the latest pictures and info!

I got married a few years out of high school, when I was too young and naive. I did not go to college, which I sorely regret, or develop a career, but I was a housewife for 10 years. I was very unhappy in the marriage, but I hung in there like a good Christian wife, doing my wifely duties. During that time, I overcame hypoglycemia. Since my divorce, I have worked very hard to try to support myself, including being a school bus driver, a paralegal, and a process server. At one point, things got so bad that I was homeless and living in my car. It was a very bad time in my life, but I learned from it too.

Upon refection, I learned many lessons in my marrige, but here is The Most Important Thing I Learned From My Marriage.

All of these statistics about me do not really tell about who I am inside. I am a creative person. I like to garden, write poetry, oil paint, play violin, and improve my photography. I do not have formal training in these areas, but I teach myself whatever I can by reading. I also have some books that I am trying to write, but my time is so limited between my job and my children, so right now they are all on hold. My children are my top priority. I don't want to see them have a life as hard as mine, so I do my best to help them with their homework, and help them to dream big dreams of what they will do when they have their degrees. Perhaps when they are in college, I will have a little more time to take classes in painting, violin and writing.

I am a very conservative person. I don't drink, or smoke, or even swear. I like Baroque music, Shakespeare (Favorite Quotes and Insult Generator), and Gilbert & Sullivan (Parody Page). I like to dance a lot too: I can waltz, foxtrot, and swing. Even though I am old fashioned, I am very outgoing and friendly. I like meeting people and learning about them. I enjoy reading history and enjoy learning about the world and other people and things. Since I never have been out of Los Angeles, everything else is new and interesting to me.

Most women I know like to spend lots of money on things like fancy hair-dos, getting their nails done, or buying the latest fashions at the mall. I like to look nice and dress up too, But I am not materialistic like that. I am very careful with money, but I do have a weakness for thrift stores. Since my life has been very hard, I am appreciative of things that most people take for granted. I'd rather buy a new rose bush than a new pair of shoes. For me, life isn't about acquiring things and being entertained. Instead it's about creating, learning, participating, experiencing, and most of all, having deep, intimate, meaningful relationships with the people I love.

Someday I hope to have my own little house, and a big garden to work in. My garden would be like my own little Eden: a place for refreshing hard work, an inspiration for creating artwork, music and poetry, and especially a place for spending time with my family. I would like to have fruit trees, roses, vegetables, and a pond with a little waterfall and Koi fish in it. I've noticed that in all cultures, Paradise is always depicted as a garden, and for some reason, never as Entertainment Center. Why sit in front of a T.V. and watch other people live their lives when I could be living it myself? Life is too short for that.
